Welcome to the Counselors for Social Justice at the University of Florida (CSJ@UF) website. Our name has changed, but our dedication to promoting social justice for all has not.
Founded in April 2006, CSJ@UF was organized to advocate the use of counseling strategies, interventions, and education at the local, state, and national levels in order to confront situations in which power and privilege have marginalized large portions of the population. As we enter our third year, we have revised our mission statement to reflect the evolution of our organization over the past two years. This year our focus continues to be on laying a solid foundation to move the organization forward and to advance of the study and practice of social justice. As such, we have crafted a clear vision statement and are working on our shared core values statement. Also, we are in the process of drafting our strategic and operational plans to ensure our goals, strategies, and actions align with our mission, vision, and values and as a reminder that we focus our efforts on activities that
bring attention to the potential for our membership to be agents of change,
reach out to marginalized populations, and
engage our membership in open dialogue and research on issues of social justice
We invite you to explore our website. You will find information about our organization, opportunities to network with our members, and opportunities to get involved in community service and research projects taking place here in Gainesville and elsewhere. Visit our message board – a venue for worldwide discussion and a repository of social justice resources. You can also visit our virtual mall, a new addition to the site, to help raise money to fund projects designed to provide education and awareness training or social action projects that address oppression and other social injustices in our local community. There you will find hundreds of well-known stores and lots of sales and specials. By shopping in our mall, CSJ@UF will receive a small commission on any purchases you make. For example, we will earn 3% of anything you spend at LandsEnd and 8% at Shoe Mall.
Once again we welcome you to our community. We are excited about you being here and we look forward to working with you to end discrimination, oppression, poverty, and other forms of social injustice! If you have suggestions, comments, or questions, we invite you to email us.
Sincerely,
CSJ@UF 2008-2009 Executive Committee
