Who We Are
Counselors for Social Justice at the University of Florida (CSJ@UF) is a nonprofit student run organization composed of counseling students, counselor educators, and community members.
Our Mission
To promote social justice by collaborating with advantaged and disadvantaged individuals to constructively challenge social injustices as they relate to the counseling profession through education and awareness training, scholarship, and social action.
Our Vision
To foster the development and maintenance of just relationships, to encourage the equitable distribution of societal resources, to facilitate the non-hierarchical exchange of information and ideas, and to support its members' individual passions and interests concerning social justice and social advocacy.
What We Do
Guided by the triadic model of advocacy, CSJ@UF promotes a service-oriented approach that encourages members to:
- become familiar with diverse populations in various settings experiencing personal, institutional, or societal oppression
- apply counseling and consultative skills to address social injustices in which power and privilege have excluded and/or marginalized members of our communities, and
- produce research and scholarship to increase the critical consciousness of the general public, public policy makers, and members of the counseling profession.
